Owner Istvan Garancsi purchased the club three years ago
It was exactly three years ago that Istvan Garancsi bought Videoton FC, transforming a broken debt ridden club, into one that currently sits at the top of the Monicomp league division one. It was back on the 13th December 2007, that things began to roll, and a tremendous amount of work has been done over the last 1000 days.
There has been a lot of changes since Garancsi took over the running of a club, whose finest moment came when they reached the 1985 UEFA Cup final, losing over two legs to Real Madrid. Istvan Garancsi purchased an 80% stake in Fehervar FC Ltd. He took steps to preserve Videoton's place in the first division. The Hungarian FA withdrew the license of the club around that time, with the club owing money to several organisations as well as the tax office. The financial stability of the club has resulted in those difficult days firmly being in the past now. The club have gone from strength to strength since those dark days.
Under the management of Gyorgy Mezey, an attractive young side has been put together, and last season saw Vidi fail to win the league title by a couple of points. They took part in the Europa League over the summer, and began the autumn season with a strong squad in place. Vidi now sit handsomely at the top of the table with a 7 points lead over their nearest rivals. The stadium has been improved and a new quality pitch installed. It is largely thanks to club owner Istvan Garancsi that Videoton are now enjoying a stable and promising stage in their history.
