Vidi took the lead thanks to Zsótér’s excellent free-kick goal, but Mezőkövesd, who scored in time added on in both the first and second halves, eventually won 2–1.
In the 5th round of the Merkantil Bank Liga NB II, our team hosted Mezőkövesd Zsóry FC in front of 2,472 spectators at the Sóstói Stadium. Head coach Tamás Pető fielded the following starting eleven: Vas – Simut, Balázs, Spandler, Zsótér – Murka, Nagy Do., Derekas, Bedi – Németh, Cipf. Our young goalkeeper, Bálint Vas, made his debut in a Vidi shirt today.

In the 11th minute, following a cross from the left, Silling headed wide; in the 14th, the visitors’ defenders cleared the ball for a corner from in front of Németh. In the 16th minute, following a corner from the right by Dominik Nagy, Spandler headed wide, whilst in the 26th minute, Cipf’s shot was blocked. In the 30th minute, we took the lead: Zsótér’s free-kick from 30 metres flew into the net to follow up on a similar free kick the week before; the goalkeeper couldn’t even move to stop the shot (1–0)!

Judging by the run of play, it came as a huge surprise that Mezőkövesd equalised in the first half’s one-minute stoppage time: following a corner from the left, the ball struck the crossbar and then, after an unfortunate deflection off one of our players, fell to Zachán, who fired it into the right-hand side of the net (1–1).
At half-time, we made one substitution, with Erik Kovács coming on for Cipfe. We started the second half actively too; Bedi’s shot was blocked, while at the other end, following a cross from the left by Vajda, Patrik Kovács cut inside, but Vas cleared the ball off the line. In the 50th minute, Németh crossed from the right, but the visitors cleared the danger; in the 52nd, following a cross from the right by Murka, Erik Kovács headed over the bar. In the 59th minute, Németh met another cross from the right, but his header was well saved by Winter. At the other end, in the 67th minute, Csatári’s shot ended up in the side netting.

In the 73rd minute, our team gained a man advantage when Varjas was shown a straight red card following a poorly timed sliding tackle that caught an opponent’s leg. In the 75th minute, Erik Kovács headed the ball down to Németh, who shot under the crossbar; however, the referee awarded a free-kick and ruled out the goal for a foul. In the 81st minute, following a cross from Erik Kovács, Bartusz’s header was saved by the goalkeeper; at the other end, in the 83rd minute, a chance arising from a loss of possession ended with a poor pass.
Our team pushed forward in search of the three points, but in the first minute of the four-minute added time, the visitors found the net: at the end of a counter-attack, Keresztes passed to Rab, who shot past Vas into the net (1–2).

Our team suffered a painful defeat against Mezőkövesd, as we were closer to victory in terms of the number of chances created, but we lacked precision up front and, in the end, we lost even that one point due to a goal conceded from a counter-attack. The action continues next Sunday from 17:30, away at Karcag.
