A 1-0 win on Tuesday evening in Szeged was enough to see Vidi progress into the next round.
The Hungarian Cup Round 8 saw a trip down south to the new home of Szeged and the Szent Gellert Forum. NB II side Szeged-Csanad Grosics Academy were the opponents and manager Joan Carrillo fielded the following eleven: Kovács D. - Rus, Juhász, Musliu, Hangya – Pantics, Elek, Pátkai – Milanov, Petrjak – Zsóri.
It was the home side that had the first chance after 7 minutes. Gajdos saw the ball bounce in front of him and he then tried to hit it under the bar from 23 meters, but keeper Daniel Kovacs was alert to it and saved. Rus sent in a fine ball from the right after 25 minutes, which ended with Petryak having a chance on goal, but he could not beat the keeper from close range. Zsori at the same time appeared to be fouled inside the box but the match official did not give a penalty. The game was a half hour old when Pantics lifted the ball wide of the goal. The first half ended with a chance for Vidi through Petryak and one at the other end and a shot from Olah. The two sides went in at the break with the score at 0-0.
Neither manager made a change at the break. Hangya went on a lovely run after 60 minutes before Milanov shot from distance over the bar. The Bulgarian winger suffered an injury and was forced to come off. Istvan Kovacs replaced him while Loic Nego also came on in place of Visar Musliu. Kovacs provided Zsori with a lovely ball on 69 minutes and the forward had a one-on-one chance to score, but the Serbian keeper in the home goal did well to deny him. A Zsori corner after 71 minutes ended with a shot from Patkai from 17 meters that went over the bar.
The home side made a substitution and former NB I player Peter Andorka came on and was soon testing the Vidi defence. However, his shot did not cause too much danger to the visiting goal. Nego shot at goal after 78 minutes following some good skill but Gabor Toth managed to block the effort with the ball heading towards the bottom left corner. Cigan had a shot for Szeged a minute later, but keeper Kovacs went down well to save it. The game seemed as if it would be settled with 5 minutes of normal time remaining. Moga fouled Futacs and the referee pointed to the spot while showing the Szeged player his second yellow card, which meant they were also down to 10 men. Futacs picked himself up but he could not beat Aleksic, who dived to his left to keep it out. The full time whistle blew with the score still at 0-0. That meant an additional 30 minutes of extra time. There was a Mohl header for the home team while Futacs also shot but there was still no breakthrough. The fog started to fall upon the new modern Szent Gellert Forum stadium.
The one man advantage was evident as chance after chance arrived through Patkai, Funsho and Petryak. Eventually the game was settled in the 103rd minute. A Nego cross saw both Patkai and Karasz rise to meet it and it was the home defender who got the final touch to put the ball into his own net (0-1).
There was no further change to the score and Vidi made it into the last 16 of the Hungarian Cup. It was a real battling 120 minutes and MOL Fehervar FC will find out who their next opponents are when the draw is made on Wednesday evening.
