Vidi will take a one goal lead in to the second leg

The rain had fallen for most of the day on the artificial pitch of the Park Hall Stadium. The tight compact ground was the venue for the Champions League, 2nd qualifying, first leg tie. The coach carrying the Vidi squad rolled in to the stadium complex at around 17:30pm, not long before the first sets of travelling supporters had also arrived. The match was played in front of a capacity 1100 supporters.

It was the home side who had the first real chance of the match. A free kick from the left was curled in behind the defence and Rawlinson just failed to connect. The reply came two minutes later when nice skill from Kovacs saw him break in to the box, before finding Oliveira with a pass. However, his shot came back off a defender. There were small chances in the next 15 minutes with most falling to TNS. However, they failed to create any clear cut chances. A group of visiting supporters then arrived on the 20 minute mark and they joined the other red and blue fans in the corner of the stadium.

A throw in on 22 minutes saw Kovacs find himself with a chance. He controlled the ball on his chest, before shooting from 14 meters out, but the ball rebounded off a defender. The rebound fell to Kovacs who sent a high ball over to Patkai, who tried his luck, but without any success. The biggest chance of the game fell after 25 minutes, when Patkai released Gyurcso, who ran at goal before trying to slip the ball past the keeper, but Harrison stuck his leg out to save the shot. Oliveira also tried with an effort but that was blocked again. Quigley found himself on the ball on the half hour mark. He sent a ball in to the middle but keeper Gabor was equal to it.

A few minutes later, Cieslewicz shot wide from 22 meters. Oliveira broke in to the box with 10 minutes left of the first half and ended up on the floor following a challenge. Referee Valasek did not see a foul and waved play on. Cieslewicz then played himself clear on 37 minutes, and his powerful shot from 20 meters went wide of the left post. A quick counter attack a minute later ended with a low shot from Seargeant, which went wide of the mark. The final chance of the half fell to TNS. Finley put the ball in to the middle but that was hacked clear by the visiting defence.

Gyurcso sent a corner in at the start of the second half, which was headed on by Fejes. Keeper Harrison gathered the ball on the edge of the box. A Marriott free kick on 58 minutes was flicked on by Edwards but young Gabor in the Vidi goal collected the ball. Gyurcso showed neat footwork down the wing before crossing from the left on the goal line. Koltai glanced his header wide of the post. Seargeant hit a long ball towards goal, which Gabor tipped away from under his bar. Juhasz was on hand a minute later to put pressure on Seargeant, whose shot went wide from 24 meters. Vidi went ahead on 77 minutes. Oliveira battled for possession and the ball fell kindly to Gyurcso, who looked up and found the bottom corner with a low strike from 22 meters out. (0-1).

The remaining minutes saw the home side press in search of the equaliser. However, they could not get through the Vidi defence and the Slovakian match official blew for full time after 3 minutes of stoppage time. Videoton will go in to the second leg next week with a goal advantage.
