Wednesday saw a supporters meeting at the Sóstó

On Wednesday at 6 pm, we held a supporters’ forum at the Sóstói Stadium, which, as on previous occasions, was well attended by our supporters.

In the first half of the public meeting, Dr András Cser-Palkovics, the mayor, updated those present on the latest developments regarding the tender for the sale of our club, going into detail about the events of the past few weeks and the decisions taken at Wednesday morning’s council meeting. He explained that, as the company registered in the USA, which had come first in the tender had withdrawn its bid on the 11th August, the local council was unable to enter into a contract with them. The company in question later indicated that the circumstances which had previously posed an obstacle had been resolved and that they were not giving up on purchasing the Club. However, they are currently unable to do so – should a new tender be launched, they would then be able to submit a fresh bid.

The local authority is currently in negotiations with Racing City Group, which came second in the tender, regarding the sale of the club. In addition to paying the purchase price, the prospective buyer must provide a guarantee that they have the financial backing to meet the three-year investment commitment of approximately 5.3 billion forints undertaken in the tender. The local authority is engaging the services of a professional, specialist international consultancy firm to assess the adequacy of these guarantees.

He explained that, as a responsible owner, they are also preparing for the eventuality that the transfer of shares might not go ahead. As part of this, they are examining exactly how much external funding would be required to finance the 2026/2027 league season at current cost levels, and how much of this would need to be secured by the 31st December 2026.

The mayor received two questions, relating to the security measures in place at the stadium and to the hopes and reservations regarding the potential owner.

In the second half of the press conference, the owner of Racing City Group, Morris Pagniello, introduced himself to the supporters. He outlined his vision for the club, mentioning the establishment of an international academy and the prospect of competing on the international stage within a few years. He said that, ideally, the squad would be made up of a strong core of Hungarian players, supplemented by high-quality foreign players. He emphasised that the club’s name would remain Videoton in future; retaining the elements that symbolise the club’s identity is non-negotiable for them.
