NICOLAS STEFANELLI

"We are not looking backwards, but forwards in the league table"

According to the fans, Stefanelli was one of our best players against PAFC. Among other things, we talked to the Argentine striker about this, his new role and the coming match against Paks.

We had a great start to the spring season, beating our county rivals 1-0. How was the game on Saturday night out there on the pitch?

We fought very aggressively from the first minute and managed to take the lead early, in the 13th minute. It was important to start the game so well, it shows that everyone was very "sharp" going into the game. Internally it was a very difficult match, we had to be disciplined and concentrate all the time. I think all the players who came on the pitch for our team on Saturday night, whether as starters or substitutes, did an amazing job. There was a relentless fight for every single ball and when we had the ball, we tried to do our best with it. It was important for us to start the year with a win, because it was good for our confidence.

Not only for the team, but also for you personally, you started 2025 well, scoring four goals and providing a couple of assists in the pre-season matches, and you managed to carry this form over to the start of the season- not surprisingly, you were also voted one of the best in the team by the fans. How does that make you feel?

It feels really good when the fans are happy with my performance, it's important for me to get that feedback. During the pre-season, my main goal was to get in shape for the rest of the season so that I could play to the best of my ability and help the club. To achieve this, I trained very hard both at home and at the training camp. The coaching staff changed our tactics and already in the match against Puskas we played much more aggressive football, trying to keep our opponents under pressure. I think this approach suits my style of play very well. It's nothing new for me, but of course I like to play on the wings as well - I try to play to the best of my ability in the position the head coach puts me in. However, it's important to stress that it's more important than my individual performance that the team performs as well as possible and that we continue to collect league points in the future.

We are already on a tough series of games at the beginning of the year, as we have a number of league matches in February, and we will also have to play in the MOL Hungarian Cup away from home.

That's true, we have a really tough few weeks ahead of us. But the team is ready for the task, there may be matches where the players who have played less so far will have more work to do, but that's not our job, it's the job of the coaching staff. What is certain is that all players are fully prepared for the spring season. It is very important to recover after matches, but the staff is also very professional in this area. We know that we have a cup game in the middle of the league campaign, which is just as important for us as the league games, because our aim is to go as far as possible in the cup, but we also want to move up the league table - we are not looking backwards, we are looking forwards.

We visit Paks this weekend, and we will not have an easy 90 minutes there either. What kind of match do you expect?

I think it's going to be an interesting encounter, it's going to be a big challenge for us to play Paks away, because they are a very physical team, who are very dangerous, especially at home. Unfortunately, we lost to them at home in the autumn, and we will do our best to get revenge for the last defeat. We mustn't give them too many chances, we have to be tough in every match, as we were against Puskás. Last time we proved that we are a compact team, we can play aggressively both in defence and attack. Our goal is to get three points in the league, but to do that we have to be very disciplined and focused from the first whistle to the end of the game.
