Barry Hunter took time out to talk about youth football
Barry Hunter (pictured on the right) is the chief scout for the Italian region, for English premiership giants Manchester City. Hunter, who took part in the recent scouting forum, held in Milan, visited the Videoton FC stand at the event. He took time out to talk a little about youth football and the upcoming Puskas Suzuki tournament in Felcsut. The former Northern Ireland international defender scouts the region trying to find the latest talent for the Manchester club.
- What is your opinion regarding the difference in talent between the Hungarian U17 side, and one of the top international sides in the same age group? Is there such a big difference at that level as there is at senior level?
My experience tells me that there isn't really such a big difference between the European sides at U17 level, as there is with the full international sides. There is a very good youth development system in place within Hungary. There are many talented players within the various youth age groups. It is not by accident that several young Hungarian players have joined clubs around Europe, especially in England and Germany.
Have you heard about the Puskas Suzuki cup that will be held for the fourth time in May? It is a tournament for the top U17 sides, which is held at the Puskas academy in Felcsut?
Yes, I have heard of it. Not only have I heard about the tournament, but the whole of Europe is aware of it as well. It is a well respected tournament for the U17 age group. I know that Real Madrid and other top sides take part in it, together with the Videoton Puskas-Academy, and one or two other Hungarian sides. It provides a great chance for the young players to take part in such a prestigious event, and it can only be good for their development.
