Videoton were in league cup action on Wednesday evening, when they won 2-0 away at ZTE
League Cup
Zalaegerszeg - Videoton FC 0-2 (0-1)
Videoton FC put out a very young side in their away league cup match at ZTE on Wednesday evening. The youngsters were given the chance to impress and they did not disappoint. The spine of the team was made up of the U19 side, with the rest coming from Vidi's division three team. They have already proven their potential, having won the U19 championship last season. ZTE played their reserve side with one eye on their weekend match with the Puskas Academy, in the second division fixture.
ZTE began the match more actively, but failed to carve out any real chances in front of goal. Videoton then started to get more into the match as the minutes ticked by. Midfielder Zsoter was proving a hit with his passing skills. He had a good chance after 12 minutes, with his shot just curling over Vlaszak's goal. ZTE did get the ball into the back of the net after 32 minutes, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Zsoter then had a dangerous free kick cleared by the home defence. Videoton brought the game to life by going ahead, thanks to a goal from close range by Zsolt Tar. The home side came straight back at Vidi, and could have levelled three minutes later, but Paulo Mavolo missed badly from a good position. Young Alex Rajmund had a chance to extend the visitors lead towards the end of the first half. However, he shot low and wide of the goal from very close.
ZTE manager Sandor Preisinger made two changes at the break, but it failed to make a change to the match. Zsoter found himself in space, after 50 minutes, and his very good ball to Alex on the wing, resulted in a quick ball into the centre, which ended with Karoly heading at goal from close range. A home defender cleared on the goalline, even though the good move deserved a goal. The rain began to fall making the pitch slippery and hard to play on. Both sides tried to take advantage of the conditions as a result. Vidi allowed the hosts to play more by giving them room, but ZTE could not find any way past the impressive Somodi in the visitors goal. ZTE looked most dangerous with their set pieces, with Mavolo Paolo having a good shot on goal from 25 meters out, which was saved well by Somodi from just under the crossbar. The game was decided after 81 minutes following a wonderful free kick. Csaba Vachtler sent in a great strike, which the home keeper could do nothing about to make it 0-2.
The game ended with Vidi's left back, Zsolt Nagy being sent off for his second yellow. There were 20 players left on the pitch with a minute to go, after the home side were also reduced to ten men. Videoton's young side emerged 2-0 winners in the end, and they will gain confidence from a good performance.
