At its extraordinary meeting on Friday, the Székesfehérvár City Council discussed the latest developments affecting our club.
As the mayor of Székesfehérvár said, the representative body declared the tender for the sale of Fehérvár FC Kft.'s business share invalid, but negotiations will continue with the two bidders who submitted bids, as well as with other domestic and international interested parties. The local government is expected to announce a new, single-round tender in the spring of 2026. City Mayor Dr. András Cser-Palkovics emphasized that the necessary steps can be taken to submit the license application required to start the 2026/2027 season, which guarantees Videoton FC Fehérvár's participation for next season.
Back in June 2025, the Székesfehérvár Local Government decided to purchase the limited liability company operating Videoton FC Fehérvár for 1 forint, following an offer from the previous owner. It set strict conditions for the sale: the most important of these are that the municipality cannot and does not want to finance the senior professional football team from public funds and, in this context, wishes to be the owner of the club for a maximum of one season, as funding for the first team is secured for one season (i.e., until Q3 2026) without the city having to contribute. In order to stick to its decision, after several months of preparatory and exploratory work, on the 6th November, the local government published a call for tenders for the sale of the business share of "FEHÉRVÁR F. C." Sportszolgáltató és Kereskedelmi Korlátolt Felelősségű Társaság (FEHÉRVÁR F. C. Sports Service and Commercial Limited Liability Company).
In order to ensure that Videoton FC Fehérvár ends up in competent, caring, and reliable hands, the local government has the possibility to assess the professional competence of the applicants, their commitment to the sport, and the team as thoroughly as possible, a two-round application process was launched. The first round ended on the 10th December 2025, and was discussed by the Székesfehérvár General Assembly at its closed meeting on the 16th January 2026. However, The representative body declared the procedure unsuccessful, stating that negotiations would continue with the two applicants and other domestic and international interested parties. As Dr. András Cser-Palkovics emphasized, the municipality is bound by many laws and regulations, so it was important for the general assembly to close the tender, thus opening up the possibility for further substantive negotiations in connection with inquiries received from potential owners or investors. Following this, a new, single-round tender will be announced in the spring for the sale of the business share of "FEHÉRVÁR F. C." Sportszolgáltató és Kereskedelmi Korlátolt Felelősségű Társaság (FEHÉRVÁR F. C. Sports Service and Commercial Limited Liability Company).
"There continues to be interest from domestic and foreign investors in the business shares of Fehérvár FC Kft. We have now received authorization from the General Assembly Meeting to continue negotiations with potential investors following the closure of the previous tender. At the same time, we have authorized the managing director of the company to submit the license application required for the start of the 2026/2027 league season, for which the municipality guarantees the use of the Sóstói Stadium, and a decision has been made that, if necessary, the local government will provide HUF 125 million for this purpose at the end of 2026 – but I am confident that any new owner will do so too. This was necessary in order to guarantee the operation of Fehérvár FC Kft. in the 2026/2027 season, so that we can sell good business to domestic and international buyers. The goal therefore remains to find a new owner and investor."
The mayor emphasized that Fehérvár FC Kft. continues to operate stably and, in line with previous promises, the municipality will not need to provide its own resources for the 2025/2026 season. He emphasized that the company has built up significant financial reserves during this year's operations in order to have enough time and resources to find a new owner. After the negotiations, the new, single-round tender can be announced at the latest at the April or May general meeting. The city Mayor hopes that, following a quick decision, they will be able to start the summer with the involvement of the new investor.
