A first half goal from Marko Scepovic gave Videoton all three points as they leapfrogged FTC at the top of the OTP league.
Vidi knew that a win over DVSC would secure top place after FTC had drawn their earlier game with Paks 2-2. Marko Nikolic had to do without two key players with Mate Patkai and Anel Hadzic both missing out through suspension. There was a return for defender Loic Nego, who had missed last weeks game with Mezokovesd, while Istvan Kovacs also started the game. Debrecen were forced into a late change with Benyei becoming ill during the warm up, which meant that Jovanovic started.
Vidi started well and although the visitors had three central defenders at the back, the breakthrough came fairly early on after 18 minutes. Huszti's corner found Lazovic at the far post, and the ball hit the post, with Scepovic reacting quickest to stab the ball home from close range (1-0). It had been a while since Scepovic had last scored with his previous goal coming back in November. However, that game did see the forward score three times against the same opponents Debrecen. That also made him the player with the most goals against Loki with his fifth goal.
Vidi continued to dominate the match with plenty of possession and also managing to stop the visitors from coming forward. They kept the pressure on Debrecen who were forced to defend in the first 45 minutes. A Lazovic cross on 40 minutes connected with visiting player Szatmari, but the referee waved play on despite there being a hint of handball. Nagy pulled off a good stop from a low Nego shot. The action continued with Lazovic controlling the ball before forcing another good save from keeper Nagy from 15 meters.
The start of the second half required treatment for Juhasz after he collided with Kinyik. The Vidi captain remained on the floor but he was able to continue shortly after. A Nego cross after 58 minutes provided a good chance in front of goal for Stefan, but his effort just went over the bar. It was Debrecen that were the more active during this period of the game. However, they could not find a way through the well marshalled Vidi defence. Marko Scepovic appeared to suffer an injury after 67 minutes and he needed treatment before being forced to come off.
There were no major efforts between the 70th and 80th minutes as the clock continued to wind down. Vidi comfortably defended their single goal lead. Kevin Varga was booked for the visitors after 82 minutes for a foul. He needed to be taken off by the Debrecen coach to avoid any serious action.
The three minutes of injury time did not bring any new chance. The final whistle blew and Videoton picked up 3 important points to leap frog FTC at the top of the table. They next face Paks away next weekend.
