The visitors took the lead at the end of the first half. Vidi produced many chances in the second period, and Feczesin levelled before Alvarez hit the winner from the penalty spot.
Videoton entertained Pecs in the Hungarian cup quarter-final, first leg tie at the Sostoi on Wednesday evening. The southern based Hungarian side have started 2015 well, having picked up a good 2-0 away win at the home of Ujpest at the weekend. They also knocked out Debrecen in the last round of the Hungarian cup.
Dutch player Kees Luijckx, French defender Remi Mareval and Macedonian forward Mirko Ivanovski all made their debuts in the starting line-up. The game started with a big chance for the home side: Alvarez fed Feczesin with a good ball, who controlled it and shot at goal, but it produced a good save from the Pecs keeper. Stopira tried his luck with a shot at goal on 9 minutes, but that went wide of the post. There were two further good chances for Vidi in the moments that followed. The first almost saw Vinicius give Vidi the lead, but a Pecs defender managed to clear the danger for a corner. The resulting corner saw the ball fall to Mareval, who shot from long range, but again it came off a Pecs player and out for a corner.
Chakla connected with yet another corner, but his header went wide. The first chance of the match for Pecs arrived after 26 minutes, with Racz going down the left wing, and Heffler blasted wide from a tight angle. Pecs then began to get more in to the match and played some dangerous football, with Frohlick mainly causing problems in front of the Vidi goal. The breakthrough came a minute before the break. The visiting side scored when Frohlich scored with a low shot following a cut back to make it 0-1.
There were two changes at the break for Vidi with both Stopira and Luijckx replaced by Croatian duo Pajac and Trebotic. Pajac showed good skill in the 50th minute as he broke in to the box and hit a shot from the left that ended with keeper Gocze claiming the ball ahead of Feczesin. Ivanovski then had two shots at goal in quick succession. The first did not hit the target but the second was blocked by a Pecs defender. The 58th minute saw a free kick taken by Pajac that was sent in high and headed over goal by Chakla from close range. Pajac remained in the thick of the action and found himself with a chance to shoot from 15 meters, which produced a good save from the visiting keeper. The same happened in the 65th minute when Alvarez tested Gocze.
The Pecs keeper could do nothing a minute later when Feczesin found the bottom right corner with a nice shot to make it 1-1. Feczesin could have scored his and Vidi's second goal five minutes later. However, his header went over from close range. Kovacs won a penalty in the 77th minute, and it was Feczesin who stood behind the ball, but his spot kick was well saved by Gocze, who dived to his left to keep the ball out. Vidi pushed Pecs back in the remaining minutes of the game. This was mainly down to Pajac and Kovacs. The referee did not award another penalty with three minutes left, when Kovacs was tripped inside the box. The resulting four minutes injury time did see a penalty kick awarded. This time Kovacs was fouled inside the area, and referee Istvan Vad pointed at the spot. Alvarez took the penalty and this time Gocze could not keep the ball out. 2-1.
Vidi won the first leg 2-1 and will go into the return leg on the 1st April in Pecs looking to progress to the next round. Videoton are next in action on Saturday in an OTP league match at the Sostoi. The game with Nyiregyhaza kicks off at 18:30pm.
